Beginning school can be a very overwhelming time. Children are settling into a new environment with new people and new routines. At Bee Ready Learning we believe that if children are already familiar with the basics of literacy and numeracy, they will have a much easier transition into primary school. We believe teaching children these skills before they start school will set them up for success as they begin their journey into formal school education.
We run our classes with a ratio of one teacher to six children. Our classes are capped at 12 children. This allows all children enrolled to receive significant support from our teachers.
Your child will be given a Bee Ready Learning pocket when they enroll which they will bring to each class. They can also bring a drink bottle. Children will NOT need a snack or any food.
Our Caterpillar classes are aimed at children aged between 3 to 5 years. Children will work on recognizing their name, spelling and writing their name. They will participate in activities which build vocabulary and develop oral language as well as fine motor activities which help to build the foundation for important future skills like writing and self-care. Letters and sounds are introduced in an informal way through craft and hands on activities. Children are also involved in activities which involve numbers, colours and shapes.
Our Butterfly classes are aimed at children aged between 4 to 6 years. Children will be explicitly taught the most common sound made by each letter in a systematic way. They will then progress to blending sounds which is an important skill needed for reading. Children will be exposed to sight words (words that cannot be sounded out and must be learnt through memory). We will focus on correct pencil grip for writing and spelling. Children will also participate in number sense activities as well as shapes and other basic mathematical concepts. These skills are taught in a fun and engaging way through craft, games and hands on activities.
Our Bee classes are aimed at children in their first year of schooling who require some extra support to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. Children will learn letters and sounds and how to blend these sounds. They will also be exposed to other strategies to support their reading. These classes will also include a writing component where children will be given the opportunity to practice their handwriting skills and basic sentence structure. Furthermore, children will participate in number sense activities as well as shapes and other mathematical concepts. As our educators are qualified primary school teachers they are familiar with the Victorian Curriculum and what standards students in their foundation year of school are expected to meet.
Caterpillar class- aimed at children 3 to 5 years old with little or no letter knowledge.
Butterfly class- aimed at children 4 to 6 years old who would like to develop their letter sound knowledge. This class would be ideal for children in the year before they begin school.
Bee class- for children who are currently enrolled in primary school working at foundation level.
If you are unsure which class would be the best fit for your child please do not hesitate to contact us as we are happy to discuss this with you and find the right fit for your child.
You are not required to stay in the class with your child. We are happy for parents to stay until their child feels comfortable and of course you are welcome to come in and have a look at what your child is doing in class. In saying that, we do prefer if parents leave as it can be quite overwhelming and difficult for some students to focus when there are many adults in the room.
In the event one of our teachers are away and we are unable to find a substitute teacher we will make every effort to run a make up class or your money for the missed class will be refunded.
